⚜️ A community-grown selector shaped by New Orleans’ underground, DJ Son blends tech house, golden-era EDM, and hip-hop nostalgia into sets built on crowd connection and pure movement. ⚜️
In this exclusive interview, we catch up with DJSON (@djson_) — the New Orleans native musician-turned-DJ shaping a fresh lane in the city’s underground. After stepping into the booth officially in 2024, he’s quickly become known for his golden-era EDM blends, hip-hop flips, and high-energy sets built on crowd connection. Grounded in community, fashion, and nonstop practice, DJSON is one of the new voices redefining how NOLA’s next wave of DJs moves the room.
NOLA EDM: Let’s start simple — who is DJ Son?
DJSON: I’m a New Orleans native musician turned DJ officially June 2024. My styles are tech house, hip hop, dubstep, and DnB. The people drive me — I’m always watching the crowd and trying to connect with the audience.
NOLA EDM: How did your journey into DJing begin? Was it a certain artist, a moment at a show, or something you grew up around?
DJSON: PURE INTENTIONS pushed me into being a better artist. I signed up for an open decks — lowkey I was nervous af — but I did it and learned a lot in that 20 minutes. My family is full of musicians and artists, so music has always been around me.
NOLA EDM: How would you describe your sound to someone who’s never heard you play?
DJSON: I love mixing golden-era EDM with remixes of current hip-hop tracks, keeping nostalgia flowing with familiar vocals. I always try to use lyrics people know. It keeps the connection strong. When you’re at my show, we’re on a journey together.
NOLA EDM: Do you have a favorite type of crowd or venue to play for? What makes a set unforgettable?
DJSON: My favorite crowds are dancers, people who are there for the ride, the destination is unknown but the journey is real af. My favorite place to play is The Saint in LGD. There is magic that happens around 3-5am everytime that is special.
NOLA EDM: One track in your rotation that always gets a reaction?
DJSON: Waka Flocka – Grove St Party (SuperFuture Remix). Always lifts the room.
NOLA EDM: When you’re not producing, what sparks your creativity?
DJSON: Fashion. If I could pick anything else to do, I’d design upscale streetwear. I partner with Saint Michele Atelier for most of my looks. I also love the annual New Orleans independent fashion show at Hotel Peter & Paul.
NOLA EDM: When and where can people catch your next event?
DJSON: I’ve got a lot planned this month, but the next ones are TONIGHT at The Beach on Bourbon — 11PM ’til dawn.
