Ziiin: Bass Frequencies, Loving Awareness, and the Next Wave of New Orleans Sound

Ahead of the NOX bass-focused system showcase at Fetiche, we spoke with Ziiin (@ziiinstep) about spiritual sound design, underground influence, and the mission to help expand the city’s bass culture.

Bass music has always lived in the spaces where sound systems push limits and communities gather around shared energy. For New Orleans artist Ziiin, that energy is deeply personal.

Born and raised in the city, Ziiin approaches DJing as something more than performance. His sets are built as immersive experiences, blending experimental rhythms, global textures, and deep basslines meant to connect a room through vibration.

NOLA EDM: For people discovering you through the NOX event at Fetiche — who is Ziiin? Tell us about your background and the sound you bring to the dance floor.

Ziiin: ZiiiN is a manifestation of loving awareness. Truly my souls name is Zin-Uru, but ZiiiN is what I came up with for the project. I started this project in 2020, & Well I’m born and raised in Nola. I’ve lived here most of my life so I have a deep understanding and connection to the city. To the culture, the struggles, the community, all of it. That’s why when I play a set, I want people to kinda experience a slice of that accumulated vibration. I want them to escape to another dimension where they can release. Empty thier cup a bit. Get a glimpse into a world where bass rules and love is the key frequency.. 🐇

NOLA EDM: This night is described as a bass-focused system experience. How does that influence the way you approach building your set?

Ziiin: I’m a true sound boii. I love pushing systems to their limits with beautiful basslines that produce goosebumps. I build my set according to the crowd and their energy. I almost always freestyle my sets because I believe in a true Dj/Crowd connection. And I think that’s part of why when people see me play live, it really sticks with them.

NOLA EDM: Fetiche is an intimate room in the French Quarter. How does a close-quarters dance floor change the way you read the crowd and shape your energy?

Ziiin: Close quarter sets always create such a beautiful and connected experience not just for the audience, but for me as well. We all sync up and align with each other. It lets me play things that I wouldn’t truly be able to articulate in bigger spaces. It helps build that “if you know you know” experiences. Or “you had to be there” moments.

NOLA EDM: Bass music can stretch across a lot of styles and tempos. What influences or sounds are shaping your selections right now?

Ziiin: I’m a bit fanatic about the weird stuff. Sounds and rhythms that come from all over the world. And bringing those sounds into the bass space. I’m very experimental when it comes to my music and what I play live. And I believe that’s part of the appeal. Something fresh and new but delivered in a digestible and enjoyable way. It starts to make people wonder how much more there is out there. I’m a wakaan baby though. Never missed a year and their style and energy really resonate with me and help inspire my sound. Liquid stranger is dad, and Lsdream is sensei.

NOLA EDM: What kind of moment do you hope to create during your set at NOX?

Ziiin: I want a lock in moment, where the whole room realizes that something sacred and special is happening. A moment that connects everyone to the music I’m playing and my emotions are translated through the system.

NOLA EDM: Looking ahead through the rest of 2026 — what projects, releases, or shows should people keep an eye out for from Ziiin?

Ziiin: I’m very connected to the underground and the essence of bass music. I’m on a mission to start a new wave in New Orleans. I’ve been in Denver the last couple years, learning and growing. And I wanna take what I’ve learned there and kinda expand our scene a bit. I feel like a lot of the people in New Orleans want the scene to be special and very community oriented and I believe that can happen. Im going to be back and forth from here and Denver doing a lot of different things so stay tuned if you live in those areas. I’m also working on my debut bass album “Follow the White Rabbit”. Dropping a new song on SoundCloud soon too🐇.

NOLA EDM: Anything else you want the New Orleans dance community to know before they step into Fetiche on March 6?

Ziiin: I want the dance community of New Orleans to know that I see them and love them and I’m one of you! I take everything in. Recommendations, suggestions, tips, love, their art. I accept it all and that helps me evolve as a person. And every time you see me play, I want to give it all back. That way we grow together and evolve as one. Life can be especially beautiful when shared with others who see its beauty as well. A curve teaches a straight line to bend🐇
