INSIDE THE SCENE WITH JABARI: THE GRUNGE AND GRIT OF NEW ORLEANS BASS

In this exclusive interview, we catch up with JABARI (@jabari) — a New Orleans-based DJ, producer, and lifelong musician who’s transforming heavy electronic sound into an emotional, communal experience.
From early days as a jazz player to discovering Skrillex live in 2014, Jabari’s journey has evolved into a mission to merge the city’s deep musical heritage with industrial-driven bass culture.

NOLA EDM: For those meeting you for the first time — who is JABARI?
JABARI: I’ve been a musician since I was 10 years old. My sound dives into the grungier, industrial sides of electronic music. I love jagged, distorted basslines and synths that hit as hard as they feel.

NOLA EDM: How did your journey into music and DJing begin?
JABARI: Seeing Skrillex live at Austin City Limits in 2014 changed everything. It was like watching a spaceship land — that show made me want to be part of electronic music forever.

NOLA EDM: How would you describe the vibe of a Jabari set?
JABARI: Explosive and unpredictable. I blend dubstep, neurofunk, and industrial techno into something that feels unique every time I play.

NOLA EDM: How has New Orleans influenced your growth as an artist?
JABARI: Folks live and breathe music down here. From jazz to electronic, there’s a deep reverence for sound — and being part of that community is an honor.

NOLA EDM: What role does community play in your music?
JABARI: It’s everything to me. My sets are an exchange of energy — a shared experience where everyone gets lost in the same rhythm for a little while.

NOLA EDM: What’s next for you?
JABARI: Expanding my shows nationwide, hitting festivals like Lost Lands or EDC, and continuing to refine what “JABARI” sounds like. Every day I’m getting closer to defining my identity as an artist.
