⚜️ From early inspiration on New Orleans dance floors to building their own sound, DJ BIZ4RRE ST4RR is stepping into the scene with curiosity, confidence, and a growing love for the craft. ⚜️
New Orleans nightlife has always been shaped by people who fall in love with the energy of the dance floor before ever stepping behind it. That’s where DJ BIZ4RRE ST4RR’s story begins. After spending time at local events, they found themselves drawn not just to the music, but to the DJs themselves. That curiosity turned into intention, and eventually into action. We caught up with DJ BIZ4RRE ST4RR (@st4rrisbiz4rre) to talk about their journey, their influences, and what they’re building next.
NOLA EDM: For people discovering you for the first time — who is DJ BIZ4RRE ST4RR? Tell us about your background and what led you into DJing
Tell us about your background, how this project evolved, and where your sound lives within heavier bass music.
BIZ4RRE ST4RR: DJ BIZ4RRE ST4RR aka Starr, I am an upcoming dj and I’ve been djing consistently for a little over a year. I love going to different events to listen to different genres and see how other djs do their thang. Whether I go with a group or just one friend, I feel like I’m always the one who wants to watch the djs instead of just listen, and doing that has inspired me to want to be apart of the dj scene!
NOLA EDM: You come from a family deeply connected to music. How has that environment shaped the way you hear and approach sound today?
BIZ4RRE ST4RR: It’s shaped me because I grew up where music was everywhere I turned. In the car listening to my grandma play her favorite CD for what felt like the 100th time. At home whether it’s my brother practicing drumming or my mom singing. Music has always been involved in my life and I’m very intentional when it comes to my approach on sound.
NOLA EDM: You mentioned being inspired by going out and watching other DJs. What was that moment where you realized, “I want to do this too”?
BIZ4RRE ST4RR: The moment I realized I wanted to DJ was at my first time at Ascendance at Cafe Istanbul in Feb 2023. I was inspired by the vibe, the safe space they provided, and the DJs were AMAZING. I continued going to their events and it was a pleasure every time. I remember how refreshed I felt after leaving the event and how I want to become a DJ and proceeded to move forward with learning through Youtube watching different types of DJs and going to different events around the city.
NOLA EDM: Your name stands out right away. What’s the story behind DJ BIZ4RRE ST4RR and what does it represent to you?
BIZ4RRE ST4RR: So the way I came up with my name has a few factors. Bizarre? Yes. I resonate with being odd and kind of a weird individual. It’s also in the title of one of my favorite anime’s Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure. Starr, which is my chosen name, I like to be called a star because I want to manifest becoming a star one day! Finally 4’s instead of A’s because I was born on the 4th and I thought it looked cooler (:
NOLA EDM: You’re still early in your journey but already gaining support in the scene. What has that encouragement meant to you as you’re building your confidence?
BIZ4RRE ST4RR: It means so much to me! I feel like a kid again when my friends and family cheered me on for stepping outside of my shell! It inspires me to keep going and to continue growing. My friends keep telling me they want to see me DJ at an event so they can “shake sum butt”. It also holds me accountable because when I tell people I DJ, I want to be able to take pride and be able to show them!
NOLA EDM: You listen to a wide range of genres. How does that influence the way you build your sets or think about your sound?
BIZ4RRE ST4RR: It influences the way I build my set because I typically want to introduce the crowd to something out of their comfort zones, just a little. For example, when looking for songs, I look up my favorite artists and a genre that I’m unfamiliar with. By doing that I’ve been expanding my sound. Recently I’ve been into Jungle edits!
NOLA EDM: As you continue to grow, what are you focusing on right now when it comes to improving your craft?
BIZ4RRE ST4RR: As far as improvement, I’m focusing on being more consistent on social media. Meaning posting myself practicing and recording and uploading the mixes from those practices more. I’m a retired perfectionist and to get out of thinking everything has to be perfect I just post my imperfections and grow from it (:
NOLA EDM: The New Orleans scene is full of strong personalities and sounds. Where do you see yourself fitting into that energy?
BIZ4RRE ST4RR: I see myself right with them! There’s so many inspiring DJs in the city and I would love to connect with them all. All of us holding hands like the Hands Across America but just throughout New Orleans. (potentially) (:
NOLA EDM: Looking ahead, what does your ideal future as a DJ look like — whether that’s playing bigger shows, curating your own events, or teaching others?
BIZ4RRE ST4RR: As a DJ my ideal future looks like playing bigger shows for sure. A full circle moment for me would be DJing for Ascendance and ultimately curating my own events for the next generation of baby DJs
Just know… if you see my name on a flyer, you might dance, you might cry, you might question your life choices. But it’ll be fun.
