⚜️ Stemmily’s “Seduction” turns heartbreak into motion. She blends cinematic liquid Drum & Bass with Louisiana soul, feminine power, and swamp-born magick. ⚜️
In this exclusive interview, we catch up with Stemmily (@stemmily_) — a Louisiana-born DJ, producer, and curator leading the Gulf South’s Drum & Bass movement.
From her roots in rhythm and storytelling to becoming New Orleans’ first female Drum and Bass (DnB) producer, Stemmily transforms emotion into sound. She’s blending cinematic melodies, liquid textures, and raw vulnerability through what she calls “swamp-born magick.”
NOLA EDM: For those meeting you for the first time, who is Stemmily?
STEMMILY: Stemmily is my outlet for transformation and the bridge between my inner world and the dance floor. I’m a DJ, producer, and event curator born and raised in Louisiana, rooted in Drum & Bass and the underground music scene. My sound blends deep rollers, liquid, and halftime with emotional, cinematic textures that I like to call “swamp-born magick” because it’s raw, mysterious, and full of feeling. I grew up playing drums, piano, and guitar, so rhythm and melody have always been my languages. What drives me most as an artist is the influence of women. I wanted to create a safe space that empowers and protects women, especially the next generation.
NOLA EDM: Your new single “Seduction” just dropped. what story does this track tell, and what inspired it?
STEMMILY: “Seduction” was inspired by my own experience with heartbreak. I’ve often felt misunderstood, not only by the people I’ve loved the most but also by the scene at times. It’s hard out here for women, and navigating love while trying to build a name for yourself can feel isolating. The person who inspired this song used to call me a siren — someone alluring but dangerous. I found myself in a situation where my intentions were constantly misinterpreted, and I’d be pushed away as a result. I don’t think they meant to hurt me, but being seen as something I’m not was painful when all I ever wanted was love.
NOLA EDM: The concept of the siren feels powerful. How did that imagery connect to your story?
STEMMILY: The siren represents that misunderstood part of me. I imagine if she made music, it would be liquid Drum & Bass: beautiful, emotional, and full of longing beneath the surface. That’s what Seduction became: her song, her truth, and her release.
NOLA EDM: Sonically, Seduction feels both ethereal and powerful. What was your creative process like when producing it?
STEMMILY: The piano came first. It was the emotional core, written late at night when I was processing pain and confusion. From there, I built the drums and bass around that softness, like waves rising and falling around a fragile melody. I wanted the energy to feel strong but not aggressive, more like strength through vulnerability. Balancing softness and intensity is something I strive for in all my music, and in this track, it meant letting the emotion lead rather than following a formula.
NOLA EDM: The artwork for Seduction tells a story of its own. Can you share how it ties into the song?
STEMMILY: The artwork represents reflection, transformation, and duality. The mirror symbolizes how we see ourselves versus how others perceive us. The wings represent freedom and release, and the siren is finally finding peace within her own voice. I shared my concept with @ellasartlife, who brought it to life visually. It felt like the perfect mirror to the emotions I poured into the track.
NOLA EDM: As New Orleans’ first female Drum & Bass producer, what does this release represent for you?
STEMMILY: This release is a milestone. It’s my favorite thing I’ve made so far, and it represents softness, acceptance, and growth. Each song I make captures a specific time in my life. When I listen back, I can feel everything I felt when I wrote it. Seduction marks the beginning of a new chapter for me, both personally and creatively.
NOLA EDM: You’ve performed across North America. How has your Louisiana background shaped your sound?
STEMMILY: Being Cajun runs deep in everything I do. The rhythm, spice, and magick of South Louisiana are part of me. Growing up here taught me groove and grit, but traveling has helped me mix that with different influences. I like to call my sound “music gumbo” — a blend of everything I’ve experienced, seasoned with emotion and intention.
NOLA EDM: Looking ahead, what’s next for you?
STEMMILY: I’m working on my first EP, and Seduction is a big piece of that journey. My next show is in Dallas with Venus Collective: a female-led party that’s all about empowering women in the dance scene. I’m also playing a few more shows in different cities soon, and I can’t wait to share what’s next.
