Dr. Romance Takes Over AYYBO Live From Sunset to Afters

In this exclusive interview, we catch up with Dr. Romance — the dynamic DJ duo of Dr. Jax and Romancing The Stoned — ahead of their direct support slot for AYYBO at The Rabbit Hole. Known for their chemistry behind the decks and their ability to read a room in real time, Dr. Romance is tasked with setting the tone for an early-evening party that rolls seamlessly into late-night territory.

From bass-heavy house to techno-leaning energy, this set is about momentum, movement, and preparing the floor for what’s coming next.

NOLA EDM: For those catching you for the first time at this AYYBO show — who is Dr. Romance?

Tell us about your background, your sound, and what brings you to the dance floor.

Dr. Romance: The dynamic DJ duo,  Dr. Romance, is the musical combination of Dr. Jax and Romancing The Stoned. We met 3 years ago at an RTS house party and quickly realized we shared an undeniable passion for the arts, entertainment, and music. A  couple weeks later, we played b2b and the rest is history! By summer 2020 we had their first official event together as Dr. Romance under their entertainment company Pure Intentions Entertainment. Our chemistry and energy while performing is undeniable with a room shaking mix of bass-house, house and techno!!!!!!

NOLA EDM: This is an early-evening into late-night takeover at The Rabbit Hole with a bass-heavy house focus.

How are you approaching your set to match the energy of the room and the flow of the night?

Dr. Romance: We have a very high energy approach to performing and we believe the crowd feeds off that. We love to perform and bring energy to the crowd while doing so!

NOLA EDM: AYYBO’s sound leans into playful, groove-forward house with serious low-end.

How does sharing the lineup with an artist like AYYBO influence your selections or mindset behind the decks?

Dr. Romance: We always try to be mindful of who we are opening up for and incorporate their style into our sets to set the stage for them. As direct support our job is to get the crowd exactly where the headliner wants them.

NOLA EDM: The Rabbit Hole has become a home base for forward-thinking dance music in New Orleans.

What excites you about playing this venue, and how does the space shape the way you build a set?

Dr. Romance:

Rabbit Hole is our home and has been for a while. We love playing here. We play at RH at least once a month. People know what to expect when we play at RH.

NOLA EDM: With the afterparty rolling straight into Up To No Good, this night is built for momentum.

What kind of energy do you want people to feel when you hand the room off to the next phase of the night?

Dr. Romance: Feral energy for sure. Coming from the outdoor party right into an after party is definitely up our alley. With the night comes a different type of energy.

NOLA EDM: What do you hope people walk away feeling after a Dr. Romance set — especially in a setting like this?

Dr. Romance: We hope to inspire people to dance and have a good time. We want them to let loose and give themselves to the dance floor when they see us perform.

NOLA EDM: Looking ahead, what’s coming up next for you?

Dr. Romance: We have a packed Mardi Gras schedule so be on the lookout. We’re playing the Chewbaccus Ball next Friday and also doing an after party at RH that same night. We’re launching our Pure Way Ball soon as well.  Dr. Jax has another Bass Face event for the dubstep lovers on Feb 7th and Romancing The Stoned is having his first Late Checkout event at The Midnight Train on Jan 31st. We’re very busy and we also have some new music on the way!!!
