Bass IRL: Turning Bass Culture Into Real-World Impact in Lafayette

Every scene has a moment where it decides what it stands for. For Lafayette’s Bass IRL (@bass.irl), that moment came when bass music stopped being just a party and started becoming a platform.

Rooted in local rave culture and driven by community-first values, Bass IRL has grown from small Bass Lounge events into a collective focused on connection, discovery, and tangible impact. Their latest Bass Lounge event brings together artists like 1sec, Gonza, Ziika, and more.

We caught up with Bass IRL to talk about their origins and their approach to curation.

NOLA EDM: For people discovering Bass IRL through this Bass Lounge event — who are you as a collective?

Tell us about how Bass IRL started, your roots in Lafayette, and the kind of community you’re building around bass music.

Bass IRL: BASS.IRL started out of pure love for rave culture and bass music — and honestly, boredom with the regular nightlife scene in Lafayette. Our first two events were called Bass Lounge, created to give the city a different way to party and experience music. The name BASS.IRL was later coined by Danny Tran (NOI$Y) ahead of our Downtown Rising after-party, which featured GONZA, NOI$Y, 1SEC, and INZY.

After how well those first EDM-focused events went, the demand for more came fast. That’s when BASS.IRL really started to grow beyond just throwing parties.

At its core, BASS.IRL is a collective of DJs, producers, and just regular people who care about bass music. What began as a new way for Lafayette to party has turned into a space where EDM artists can express themselves, build their brand, and feel supported by a community that shows up. Bass IRL is for everyone. If you’ve ever shown love, pulled up to a show, supported the scene, or even just felt the bass, you’re part of the BASS.IRL collective.

How do you approach curating lineups, and what kind of energy are you aiming to create in the room?

Bass IRL: When it comes to curating our lineups, we like mixing familiar local names like 1SEC, GONZA, ZIIKA, and NOI$Y with artists people in Lafayette might not know yet. That could be someone just starting out or an artist who already has a name in another Louisiana city. It keeps the night feeling fresh while still staying rooted in the local scene and gives the crowd a chance to discover something new in a room where the bass fills every corner.

NOLA EDM: Bass IRL exists at the intersection of music, connection, and purpose.

How do you see bass music functioning as a tool for bringing people together beyond the dance floor?

Bass IRL: Our events are really just about bringing people together who share a love for bass music, and even those who may not know they like bass music yet. The dance floor is just the starting point. From there, real life takes over. You never know who you might meet at a Bass IRL event. It could be the love of your life, a future business partner, or a new long-lasting friendship.

NOLA EDM: Looking ahead, what’s next for Bass IRL after this show?

Are there future Bass Lounge editions, new cities, collaborations, or community-focused initiatives on the horizon?

Bass IRL: After this show, we already have a few more Bass Lounge events scheduled in collaboration with 4509 Lounge and Sound Safari Productions, and we’re excited to keep building on that momentum.

We’re also very open to collaborating with other collectives that want to help curate lineups and bring new sounds to Lafayette, or even provide promotional support for events that feature Lafayette DJs. Beyond shows, we’re hoping to drop another round of BASS.IRL merchandise this year.
